If Cloud computing is the greatest thing for business since sliced bread, then by extension, it certainly ought to be the greatest thing to get education since chalk. In point of fact, a relatively large proportion of our university could be said to be effectively \”in the Cloud,\” since most documents we process do not exist except in electronic form, almost all of our interactions with students and a large portion of our faculty are electronically mediated, and there is relatively little in the way of physical objects to define us as a university. Of course, the major difference between our operation and how Cloud computing proponents see the model lies in the fact that we manage our own information technology rather than relying on someone else to provide it for us. But there is no denying that in terms of educational options, there is much to the Cloud model that would appeal to university faculty and administrators.

Some institutions have made a full-scale commitment to the cloud in terms of educational opportunities, confiding a large portion of their students\’ interactions to offsite group-based tools and technologies. These often allow a wide variety of things to happen in class situations that our more primitive technologies won\’t accommodate. One of the more interesting kinds of cloud-based tools used by educators is the cooperative work application known as a wiki. Wikis are essentially cloud-based authoring tools, in which all participants have an opportunity to edit the work in progress (while having their contributions tracked for accountability purposes) and work can proceed asynchronously. The best-known version of this communications tool is of course the well-known Wikipedia; you can read about its own version of its own model here: It is a very interesting and widely applied tool, and clearly has implications for educational activities. You can probably find a variety of materials relating to the applications of wikis in education if you do some simple Google searching.

Some schools have made wikis a central point in their educational model. For example, Bentley University near Boston, a school specializing in business education and high-technology, claims to teach many of their courses \”through the lens of Web 2.0\” An excellent example of how Columbia University uses wikis is available at Please select any course on the site and explore it further. As you review their video, try to think about what the students there might be getting out of their classes that isn\’t currently available to our students; also consider any possible downsides to the wiki-based model that should be evaluated as well.

In this Ted Talk Sugata Mitra discusses how to use the cloud to build a collaborative school in a self organized learning environment.

When you have reviewed the Bentley U. and Columbia University materials and the Ted Talk, please summarize your assessment of the applicability of wikis as a cloud-based tool and the use of the Cloud for self organized learning environments for our educational system in a short (2- to 3-page) paper. Please try to address the following issues somewhere in your presentation:

Your understanding of how a wiki works and the kinds of things that can be used for
Your assessment of the wiki model as a representation of the cloud computing approach
Your specific comments regarding the video from Columbia University and how they use their wiki
A summary of the thoughts you have regarding the applicability of the cloud computing model to the work of Trident and our students
The following items will be assessed in particular:

The degree to which you have carried out the assignment completely, or clarified why you could not and investigated alternatives
Your ability to describe your experiences clearly and draw conclusions from them, not just narrate events
Your ability to focus on the overall purposes of the assignment, not just its specific steps
Your use of some in-text references to what you have read; please cite all sources properly.
Your assignment will be graded according to the MSITM SLP Grading Rubric, which aligns with the following expectations. (To see the rubric, go to Assessments>Rubrics. Click the arrow next to the rubric name and choose Preview.)

SLP Assignment Expectations
Length: Follow the number of pages required in the assignment excluding cover page and references. Each page should have about 300 words.

Assignment-driven criteria (14 points): Demonstrates clear understanding of the subject and addresses all key elements of the assignment.

Critical thinking (6 points): Demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem. Shows analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of required material. Conclusions are logically presented.

Scholarly writing (3 points): Demonstrates proficiency in written communication at the academic level of the course.

Assignment Organization (3 points): Assignment is well organized and follows the required structure and organization of the assignment.

Citing and using references (4 points): Uses relevant and credible sources to support assertions; uses in-text citations; properly formats references.

cloud computing

Now with Microsoft having made its entry into cloud computing, it is safe to say that the cloud will be sticking around for a while. Due to the nature of the cloud and being relatively new still, it has inherent security risk. If you were a CIO/CTO, would you recommend that your organization venture into cloud computing? Why or why not? What factors you would consider to make the decision? And how you would mitigate potential security issues?

Perspective In Psychology

In this chapter, you learned about main psychological domains and also covered some of the main perspectives in psychology. Think about some of the various perspectives you learned about (including psychoanalysis, behaviorism, cognitive psychology, humanism, developmental psychology, health and sport psychology, and clinical psychology), and write a summary about which psychological perspective most resonates with you, and why. If you were to practice psychology someday, either as a therapist, counselor, teacher, researcher, or in some other capacity, which perspective do you think you might emphasize?

Responses to each Discussion board questions should meet minimum word count (one paragraph per question) requirements, and consist of well thought out quality work. Each response should cite the chapter of the book in question, you may give a VERY small quote from that chapter to support your opinion, followed by the page of the quote. Think of this assignment as an essay question in an exam or an assignment for a face to face class. That should be the goal of the quality level submitted in each discussion board

Analyzing And Visualizing Data

Kirk (2016) presents Interactivity includes:

Data Adjustments may include the following but are not limited to the following features:

Framing, Navigating, Animating, Sequencing, Contributing

Presentation Adjustments could be but are not limited to:

Focusing, Annotating, Orienting.

For this discussion, the following must be completed using your own wording. You will need to access the book companion site, for Chapter 7, to access these interactive figures. If you have not visited the online site yet, it can be found at Select Chapter 7, then the list of figures, and select the word “Source” to be taken to the source for that figure to be able to interact.

Please use the 26 figures listed in the text (there are 27 listed online), to make your choice of 2 of these for your discussion assignment for this chapter.

Select 2 figures and include the following information in your response. Do not include any image(s). Do not include any attachment.

Your references would be at a minimum, our text, the book companion site and each site for the 2 figures you selected.

Provide the figure number and the title for each of the 2 you selected using the following format- Figure 7.13 OECD Better Life Index. Again – use the list of figures from the text not the online book companion site.

Include the answers to the following using your own wording:

What were the reasons you selected each of the figures from the 26 provided in the text?
Did you consider the design of each useful and provide your own definition of “useful”? Why or why not?
From a visual accessibility perspective, what were the choices apparently made in the design to meet this requirement? Please ensure you review the definition of accessibility before posting your response.
What were your concerns about trustworthiness of the 2 figures you selected?
From your perspective, who/what group was the targeted audience for the 2 figures you selected?
What modifications/enhancements would you suggest for these 2 figures? Remember there is no such thing as a perfect visual design.
